Our heritage breed porkers are raised on pasture in the sunshine and shade of our live oaks. They roam the forest and fields of our farm enjoying the natural forage they love: acorns, weeds, grass, shrubs, and roots. They have continual access to a custom grain ration.
This diet and exercise program sustains incredibly healthy animals. We absolutely never feed steroids, antibiotics, or hormones to our animals. They are gently and humanely processed to complete the cycle of a happy life. It is more work to raise porkers in this way, but the health and taste benefits of the finished product are absolutely worth the effort.
At the end of the growing season, our porkers are rotated to spent vegetable gardens. Porkers do an amazing job of clearing a garden and preparing it for the next planting. They add vital nitrogen to garden beds while tilling and conditioning the soil. Our porkers help us grow incredibly delicious vegetables while supplementing their own diet with fresh green material and root systems.
And our porkers have a lot of fun doing this farmer’s work. Plants, animals, people, and the environment benefit from this program. This is how we grow in harmony with nature.
