Our poultry is raised on pasture in the sunshine and shade of our live oaks. The birds are protected and maintained in electrified poultry netting and housed at night in movable shelters.
Our birds have continual access to a custom grain ration. However, a significant portion of their diet is grass, weeds, acorns, bugs, and other fresh forage. This natural diet is very high in protein, vitamins, minerals, beta-carotene, and various micro-nutrients.
Our birds are never crowded and live a stress-free, happy life. As they pick and scratch their way across the farm, they add nitrogen-rich manure to the soil, enhance grass growth and diversity, and help control weeds and bugs. The benefits of pasturing chickens are obvious in the health and appearance of our farm.
The best feature of raising poultry in this manner is the taste of our eggs and chickens. Pastured eggs have a firm texture and rich taste, and the yolks are a bright yellow-orange color. This tint is a result of the vitamins, minerals, and beta-carotene in the forage. The flavor and quality of our chicken is remarkable.
It is more work to raise poultry this way, but the results are absolutely worth the effort. Plants, animals, people, and the environment benefit from this program. This is how we grow in harmony with nature.
