Gardening Class, Saturday, February 23

Moore than Feed Store Front1Gardening Class, Saturday, February 23

Friends, you are invited to a gardening class at Moore than Feed in Rockport, on Saturday, February 23, from 10:00am to noon.  The topic for this class is “How to Grow Amazing Tomatoes”.  Please mark your calendar for this event!

All gardeners are welcome, especially new gardeners.  Even if you have never planted a seed, you will leave our class with the knowledge and materials you need to go home and start your own successful garden, without the use of chemicals.

At this class, we will focus on heritage methods for growing incredibly flavorful, delicious, and prolific tomatoes.  I will provide a detailed demonstration of:  preparing the soil; companion planting with tomatoes; choosing varieties; stakes and trellises; fertilizing; soil amendments; mulching; fighting pests; and managing heat stress.

We will begin the class with bare Rockport dirt, and end the class with tomatoes successfully planted, and answer all your questions in the process.

There are reasons why some tomatoes taste so much better than others, why it can be difficult to grow tomatoes in pots, and why pests tend to destroy some gardens, and leave others alone.  We will cover all these topics, and more, to help you grow a beautiful and prolific garden.

Melvin Moore and his team will provide refreshments for the event.  And because it will be February in Rockport, the weather promises to be perfect!  Seating is available, and the area is handicapped accessible.

This event is open to the public, and there is no charge.  Just bring yourself and a love of delicious wholesome food!
